Safety
Who noroom is for, and how we keep it safe.
noroom is for adults 18 and over
The app asks everyone to confirm they’re 18 or older before it creates an identity for them, and it’s rated 18+ on the App Store.
Why it’s adults only
Rooms are anonymous, end-to-end encrypted and open to anyone with the link, and they disappear. That’s what makes noroom private, and it’s also why it isn’t suitable for younger people.
How moderation works with encryption
We can’t read rooms, so we rely on the people in them. Everyone in a room can:
- Report a member and choose which of their messages to send us. Those messages reach us in readable form so we can review them.
- Block a member, which hides their messages on your device.
- Leave the room at any time.
Room owners can also remove a member, who then loses access and can’t rejoin from that identity, and burn the room to end it for everyone at once.
Limits that slow abuse
Creating rooms, joining them and sending messages are rate-limited, and free rooms are capped per day, which makes spam and mass abuse harder.
Child safety
We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material. Reported content is reviewed, reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as the law requires, and preserved for law enforcement.
